He’s coming Back- “He Knows”
Our horoscopes attempt to tell us what kind of people we are by sharing our personality traits and behaviors with the moon and stars. There aren’t many of us who have never read their horoscope hoping for a good or accurate accounting of who we are.
There is one other who can give an accurate accounting of who we are, and who we have been all our lives. There’s a story about a woman’s encounter with Jesus where He told her all she had done. She made a request to Jesus, not anticipating Jesus’s response. She denied having a husband but Jesus corrected her and said she had five and the one she had now was not hers found in John 4:17. He told her about all she had done We can be sure she did not expect full disclosure of her past and present.
We should ponder those times we make life choices hoping it looks like something else. Sometimes, we imagine, create and justify our behavior thinking folk do not know what we are doing. We can surely convince others it is not what it looks like. We can also think we are fooling God. We are not.
God is no ghost. He created us and can tell us about ourselves; past, present, and future. Could we stand God telling us everything we have done? In this story, Jesus is likened to a prophet. Jesus knows and Jesus sees everything. True enough there’s not much we can do about our past other than repent and intentionally make the right choices from now on.
Further along in the story, the same Samaritan woman questions Jesus and speaks her truth.
She begins to try to pull Jesus into her justifying her reality. John 4: 19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. (N) 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain,(O) but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”(P) 21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming(Q) when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. (R) 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know;(S) we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. (T) 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come(U) when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit(V) and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit,(W) and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” 25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ)(X) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” 26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you—I am he. No one can fool God no matter how good an excuse we think we have. God is in all of our realities. God is going before us, maintaining and sustaining us and granting new mercies every day.
In 2021 tomorrow or minutes from now, what would you do if you found yourself standing before God? Would you act as the Samaritan woman trying to justify her reality? When the day comes when God shows himself, will you be ready for Him to tell you all you have done? We have to live higher because we do not know when that day actually is. Matthew 24:44 says Jesus warns, “For this reason, you also must be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect. It is repeated in Matthew 25:13 “So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.”
Let us be watchful and make wise choices as we journey to live out our realities truthfully. We will be held accountable if we do not recognize, repent and turn from our wicked ways.
